This is a very clever story that will keep you engaged from the outset. Grammar, syntax, and punctuation are flawless. A brisk pace is maintained throughout. The story could have been shaved by perhaps a couple of hundred words but this is a tiny observation. It’s fun to read, with excellent dialogue and characterisation. It’s the ambiguity from the outset which makes you think, ‘I’ve got to read on. Just what’s this about?’ In other words, it holds your attention throughout. Really funny moments, but with a hint of unease at many points. This is a great combination, and the author gets the balance right. A good and satisfying twist in the end. A highly recommended read.
