The title of the story emanates from the name that was given to an annual festival in the copper town of Tsumeb, Namibia. The name has been used for over seventy years and is now regarded as part of public domain as per relevant laws. The festival has however been discontinued for nearly three years now and this story is written in commemoration of the events that transpired. Any copyright infringements are not intended. As for the cover image used, the talents of my brother and friend, Alvin Pius, @tsumeb_photography on Instagram, who is a local upcoming photographer were enlisted. He captured one of the common mainroads that leads up to the park where the festival used to be celebrated. Any copyright infringements associated with the use of this image are further not intended. This is a story about the eclectic week that lead-up to Copper Festival from the perspective of high school learner Ndinelao Erasmus. All names of people and places used are entirely imaginary to protect the interests of all parties associated and any resemblance is entirely coincidental. Before we get into it, this is not a story about a teenage underdog who mystically defies the odds and perks of high school and ultimately rises to the top. However, it is about an underdog, who affords us a couple of days in her life. The gist of it is basking in the essence of the week leading up to the festival that holds so much weight in the hearts of everyone who lived in the paradise town.
